Opposition UNITA submits candidacy to Constitutional Court
Luanda - The main opposition UNITA party Tuesday in Luanda submitted to the Constitutional Court its candidacy for the Presidency and Parliament, in view of the general elections of 23 August this year.

Luanda – The main opposition UNITA party Tuesday in Luanda submitted to the Constitutional Court its candidacy for the Presidency and Parliament, in view of the general elections of 23 August this year.
Supported by 15,000 signatures from around the country , the candidacy was formally effected by UNITA's official José Pedro Cachiungo.
As per the political parties law, the contesting parties are supposed to submit their electoral candidacy to the Constitutional Court in 20 days time (2-21 May).
The head of State released a decree on 25 April this year, upon consultation with the Council of the Republic a day earlier. The president's consultation body decided to set the election for 23 August.
UNITA has as its presidential candidate its current president, Isaias Samakuva.
According to the electoral law, contesting parties are required to submit their candidacies for the poll that will elect president of the republic the top name on the list of the election winning political party.
