Ruling party presidential candidate highlights Malanje people’s resistance
Malanje - The example of struggle and resistance for self-determination of Angolans, particularly of the people of Malanje, was highlighted Saturday by the ruling MPLA party presidential candidate.

Ruling party presidential candidate, João Lourenço, addresses a public rally in Malanje province

João Lourenço was addressing a public rally meant for his presentation as ruling party presidential candidate to the people of northern Malanje province, in view of the forthcoming election of 23 August.
According to João Lourenço, the people of Malanje is a symbol of resistance, having in the far past recorded the example of resistance by king Ngola Kiluanji and queen Njinga Mbandi. But more recently, the people of Malanje showed an example of resistance through the martyrs of the Baixa de Cassanje, he recalled.
João Lourenço stated that the resistance of the Malanje people was worth staging as it led Angola to national independence.
He said as well his trip to Malanje was meant to get the blessing of king Ngola Kiluanje and queen Njinga a Mbandi, who organised the people for the war of resistance against the Portuguese occupiers.
The rally was witnessed by thousands of militants, friends and sympathisers of the party, as well as the first secretary of the ruling MPLA party provincial committee, Norberto dos Santos “Kwata Kanawa”.
The ruling MPLA party presidential candidate has so far been presented to the militants in the provinces of Cunene, Namibe, Huíla, Bié, Cabinda, Cuanza Norte, Cuando Cubango, Moxico, Lunda Sul and Luanda (municipalities of Cazenga and Viana).
