Angola: CNE committed to fair electoral process

Luanda - The chairman of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), André da Silva Neto, reiterated on Tuesday in Luanda the openness in the conduct of the electoral process, calling for a permanent dialogue amongst the political parties running for the election, set for August 23, 2017.

Speaking at the end of the meeting between representatives of political parties and the provincial commanders of the National Police, under the guidance of the Interior Minister, Ângelo Veiga Tavares, CNE boss said that his institution is engaged in a transparent and credible electoral process.

He congratulated the Interior Ministry on the initiative of holding this meeting with the political parties.

"It was a fruitful dialogue with the political parties that set out guidelines and how the parties should deal with this process, which will culminate with the general election on 23 August", he said.

The official appealed to political parties to contribute to peace, security and peace in the conducting of the process.

Regarding the European Union, which claims to have been invited very late to participate as an observer in the election in Angola, the leader said that the electoral law establishes deadlines.

"We addressed the invitation to the EU in due time, we are not seeing where the delay is on our part. It is our wish that the European Union be present in this process", he said.

He informed that most of the voting material is already in the country.
