Abel Chivukuvuku was speaking in the capital city of southeastern Cuando Cubango province, during a public rally in view of the forthcoming 23 August election.

“While some (…) believe that Angola’s major rich is the diamonds and others think it is oil, we CASA-CE think it is people,” he stated.

He stressed that Angolans are the main Angola’s rich and all the other resources are exhaustible, unlike citizens that  remain forever.

The politician said citizens must be upgraded through training and given opportunities so they can have a better future.

According to Abel Chivukuvuku, should his coalition win the 2017 election, it will correct the asymmetries and recover mainly the eastern Angola provinces like Cuando Cubango, Moxico, Lunda Sul and Lunda Norte.

According to him, the above mentioned provinces currently record a low level of development as compared with the others from the coast and centre.

In this regard, he said some historical reasons explained in general terms why the eastern provinces had been disadvantaged in relation to the others.

He mentioned that the first factor was the gap in the period of penetration of European civilisation, as colonialism arrived in the years 1480-1483, but in the

eastern region it occurred in effective terms almost 300 years later.

Chivukuvuku mentioned that the second factor behind these asymmetries is also historical, explaining that the armed struggle for national liberation was carried out mainly in the northern part and prevented the achievements that could have occurred from taking place in the colonial liberation phase and during the civil war period.

He recognised that Cuando Cubango province was one of the most affected resulting in their delayed development.

He mentioned that for the government of CASA-CE there will be three criteria for nominations, namely patriotism, honesty and competence, regardless of the party the elements defend.
