The diplomat spoke to ANGOP in the end of an audience with the National Defence minister, Salviano de Jesus Sequeira, during which it was assessed the degree of implementation of the U.S.A/Angola Memorandum of Understanding in the military domain, signed this year in Washington.

Helen La Lime revealed that she discussed with the National Defence minister the coming to Angola of American specialists, between this November and January 2018, to determine with the Angolan authorities specific areas of co-operation in the military domain.

The U.S diplomat believes that it is a very important opportunity to have American universities co-operate with Angolan military, considering the quality of training provided by those American institutions.

She said she believes in the potential of the Angolan armed forces, having stressed, however, the need for the military to improve specialisation and the knowledge of the English language.

The U.S.A/Angola Memorandum of Understanding in the military domain ws signed this year in May, in Washington, by the then Angolan minister of  National Defence, João Lourenço, now the President of the Republic.

The agreement outlines interchanges in the areas of maritime security, training military personnel, access to equipment, peace maintenance and the teaching of the English language, the U.S diplomat explained.

Meanwhile, last Thursday Helen La Lime reviewed with the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, issues relating to the present co-operation and partnership between the two countries, as well as important aspects about Angola’s regional leadership.
