Mbanza Kongo to host central ceremony of January 4
Mbanza Kongo - The Mbanza Kongo city in northern Zaire Province, hosts Thursday, January 4, the central act of the Day of the Martyrs of the Colonial Repression, in a ceremony to be chaired by the Minister of Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos.

Prior to the ceremony, the Cabinet minister is expected to visit an exhibition that will display agricultural products, geological-mining potential of the region and photos about the date, reads a note that Angop had access Tuesday.
The activities on the anniversary, open on 15 December, include lectures and a roundtable on the massacre of Baixa de Cassanje causes and consequences, as well as visits to places of historical interest.
On January 4, 1961, peasants from the cotton fields of Baixa de Cassanje were murdered for opposing the low prices of cotton purchases by farmers and the Cotonang Company.

Mbanza Kongo - The general commander of the National Police, general commissioner Alfredo Manuel Mingas, recognised that the Luvo border posts in Mbanza Kongo Municipality, northern Zaire Province, is being used for international trafficking of drugs, moneys, fuel, human beings and other crimes.
