Angola: Water supply among Luanda Government's priorities

Luanda - Medium-term provision of drinking water and electric power supply to the residents are among the priorities of the Luanda provincial government (GPL), said Friday governor Adriano Mendes de Carvalho.

The provincial governor confirmed this at the opening of the meeting with the officials of this organs and ministers, chaired by the head of State, João Loureço,  at the GPL's headquarters.

The meeting was intended, among other things, to take stock of the field visit the President paid to different social infrastructures of Luanda.

In addition to basic sanitation and environment, Luanda Government feels the provision of drinking water as greatest need.

In his address, Mendes de Carvalho blamed the lack of quality water for deaths and serious illness in some Luanda outskirts.

According to him, this situation has been causing a malfunction in hospitals /schools and raising the cost of living standard of citizens.

“Our goal is to achieve an 80% production and distribution ratio in the next two, three years," he said.

As for the basic sanitation, the governor mentioned the collection of solid waste and the cleaning of drainage ditches as priority.

He also said that government intends to improve  the secondary and tertiary roads so that, among other factors, increase the number of operators of public transports.

The meeting gathered  ministers, Municipal administrators and provincial directors.
