According to the Angolan diplomat, Manuel Augusto, the leaders of the two regional blocs want to believe that everything will turn out well and that there will be no "post-election" "catastrophic situation."
"But we also have to be realistic and, realistically, we have to agree that the environment in the DRC is a bit of a challenge, it does not assure us ... that everything can go well," he said.
Manuel Augusto was speaking to the press in Brazzaville at the end of a mini summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL), focused on Peace and security in the subregion, especially in the DRC.
The Foreign minister said that the Heads of state, after their reflection, decided to keep in constant contact until the elections and until the post-elections, "so that we can help as best we can, always having as a main premise the dialogue before, during and after the elections. "
He underscored that the Brazzaville meeting stemmed from the concerns that SADC and CIRGL leaders have for the events in the DRC, "not with a sense of interference in the affairs of this country but, on the contrary, because of the importance that the DRC has for the region".
