“We bore a message from the President of the Republic, in which it is reiterated the friendship and salutation for the election of President Mnangagwa”, said Bornito de Sousa to the press, in the end of the audience.

On the other hand, the Angolan statesman deemed the inauguration of the Zimbabwean President-elect a very positive act, having highlighted the massive participation of the people and the consensus achieved by the political and social forces of Zimbabwe.

He also emphasised the participation of statespersons from the SADC region in the ceremony, deeming it a gesture of “great solidarity”, as well as highlighted the presence of the African Union (AU) chairman, Rwandese President, Paul Kagame.

The Angolan statesman regretted, however, the absence of Zimbabwe’s  main opposition party MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa.

Bornito de Sousa represented the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, in the swearing-in ceremony of the new Zimbabwean President, Emmerson Mnangagwa.
