Bornito de Sousa, representing the Head of State, João Lourenço, joins several statesmen and personalities who come to Accra to pay homage to Kofi Annan.

The body is in a chamber in the convention center of Accra, and can be veiled by the public.

The funeral is scheduled for Thursday.

Kofi Annan was, from 1 January 1997 to 1 January 2007, the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations.

He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001 for the creation of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria for Developing Countries.

In a message sent to current UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the President of Angola regretted the death of Kofi Annan, considering it "fair" to highlight the "diplomatic ability" and "relevant role" of the Ghanaian diplomat.

He emphasizes the role played by processes that have led to peace in different countries, such as in Angola, East-Timor and the Balkans, as well as the commitment to reform and renew the UN, in order to make it more representative of the peoples of the different continents.

João Lourenço recalled that the United Nations Observer Mission in Angola (MONUA) was approved under Kofi Annan's consulate, also highlighting the visit made to the country with the objective of appeasing the tensions that existed between the parties in conflict and ensure a lasting ceasefire.

After leaving the UN, he was a special UN envoy to Syria, where he led the work to find a peaceful solution to the conflict.
