The data were advanced this Saturday by the surgeon and hospital head Filomena Amaral, following the visit of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to that hospital unit.
Filomena Amaral, 38 years of service in the area of surgery, reported that most of the cases operated during the current year are the orthopedic forum, registering 28 deaths in this period.
About 20 to 30 patients are operated on daily basis. The surgical ward has nine surgical specialties, namely general, pediatric, plastic, maxillofacial, neurological, urological, gynecological, orthopedic and vascular surgery.
The operating area of the Américo Boavida Hospital has nine operating rooms, three of which are inoperative due to equipment failure and cracks in the walls.
