The certificates signed by the statesman were presented at a ceremony presided by the Minister of State and Head of the Security House of the President of the Republic, Pedro Sebastião, as proof of the "acknowledgment of exemplary dedication and performance" in the tasks that were undertaken in the context of solidarity with Mozambique.

The catastrophe killed more than 600 people, wounded more than 1,600 and displaced thousands of families in need of humanitarian aid.

Pedro Sebastião said that Angola is a nation with strong traditions of solidarity that have been felt in the various moments of its history.

Angola knows the value of the word solidarity and sees solidarity as a means to strengthen the historic bonds of friendship with other countries, especially those in the African region, added the minister of state.

Pedro Sebastião stressed that there is awareness that the world today is deeply intertwined and the negative results of a natural phenomenon are seriously reflected in the lives of other peoples, especially in relation to climate or ecological phenomena.

The General Chief of Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces, Egídio de Sousa Santos "Disciplina", transmitted to the audience gratitude, esteem and admiration for having zealously fulfilled the mission entrusted to them by the country.

General Disciplina urged the Angolan military to follow the "brilliant example of patriotism and bravery" given by the members of the humanitarian mission to Mozambique, he stressed.

The multidisciplinary team, composed of soldiers and civilians, was created under the guidance of the President of the Republic, with the objective of supporting the population of Sofala, the main victim of the disaster, in the areas of medical care, transport, logistics and infrastructure.

Angola participated with 128 staffs among doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians and epidemiologists, who during 40 days in the province of Sofala, Beira city, developed during the emergency and post-emergency phases, several activities in the districts of Dondo and Beira.
