Energy minister visits Calueque Dam

Luanda, 11/05 - The minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, traveled on Tuesday to Calueque border locality, Ombandja municipality, in southern Cunene province, where he visited the rehabilitation works of the Calueque dam which started in April 2012.

The reconstruction works, estimated at USD 225 million will last 25 months, and will have two hydro power plants, a new canal, 21 pivots of irrigations.

Calueque Dam, started being constructed in 1974 and was not concluded, due to the invasion of South African army in the southern region of Angola.

The Cabinet minister, João Baptista Borges, who is in southern Cunene province, since Monday, paid a visit to Ombandja municipality, where he assessed the construction works of Xangongo treatment station, distribution center of Mongua and  Ondjiva treatment and distribution center, which are parts  of Xangongo/Ondjiva water project.
