Bie: Malaria kills over 200 in second quarter
Cuito - About 214 people died in the medical centres of the central Bie Province, in the second quarter of the present year, victims of malaria, a figure that represents nine cases more compared to the first quarter.

The information was given last Monday to ANGOP by the acting head of the provincial department of public health and diseases control, Nelson Stover, when presenting a report on the situation of malaria incidence in the province.
The official stressed that in the same period the provincial health authorities notified 45,202 new cases of malaria, which resulted in the death of fourteen patients.
In order to decrease the impact of the disease, the sector has been implementing various programmes, such as the introduction of new medicines for the treatment of malaria, distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets and sensitisation lectures.
The authorities have also been focussing on upgrading the medical staffs of the province, as well as carrying out fumigation programmes and activities of eliminating stagnant waters, as ways to prevent the disease, among other measures.
