Former health minister denies involvement in fund embezzlement

Luanda - The Former Health Minister, José Van-Dúnem denied any involvement in the case of misappropriation of the global fund for the malaria program.

José Van-Dúnem said Monday in court that the only implication was that he signed the
transfers as a minister, since everything seemed normal.

According to Jornal de Angola, "of the five signatures that were allowed for the bank to make the transfers, one of them was mine, and I signed it because all the process apparently appeared to be right," Van-Dúnem said.

Questioned by the judge, if at any moment he personally benefited from any amount derived from the transfers considered illegal, José Van-Dúnem replied that no, a statement confirmed by the three main defendants of the case.

The former minister said that one of the signed orders was 108 million Kwanzas: "my
coming to court made it clear that despite having signed in the background I was also deceived, because the documents were after all forged," he said.
