Josina Machel Hospital holds over thirty cardiac surgeries

Luanda - Luanda-based hospital Josina Machel conducted at least 35 cardiac surgeries during the period of July to December this year, eight months after the staff halted services and staged a strike.

The information was disclosed to ANGOP on Wednesday by the Angolan surgeon Joaquim Ngonga, during an assessment visit made by the Health minister, adding that from the overall 35 surgeries performed, only two of them did not run well due to the critical state of the patients.

The hospital performs two surgeries weekly, besides assisting patients, who have implanted peacemaker in their hearts.

On her turn, the Health minister, Sílvia Lutucuta, considered positive the balance presented by the institution and praised the fact that the surgical interventions have been performed by Angolan experts.

The hospital has 1,660 employees, amongst them 120 physicians of diverse specialties.  

The institution provides several services such as internal medicine, cardiology, surgery, urology, general traumatology, plastic surgery, facial hematology, dermatology among other specialties.
