Angola attends WHO Regional Committee meeting

Dakar - An Angolan delegation led by Health minister Sílvia Lutucuta is since last Monday attending the 68th Session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for Africa, taking place in Dakar, Senegal.

The event, set to end on Friday, is analysing pertinent matters relating to health in the African continent.

According to press note from the Angolan Embassy in Guinea-Bissau, the meeting will touch on topics like the analysis of the regional framework on the implementation of the world strategy for the prevention and fight against cholera, the certification of the eradication of poliomyelitis in Africa and the roadmap relating to the support for the access to medicines and vaccines for the 2019-2023 period.    

Other relevant issues will be the guarantee of sustainable financing for health in Africa, the global health strategy, environment and climate changes, action plan on the health of refugees and migrants, besides others.

Speaking at the gathering, Health minister Sílvia Lutucuta emphasised the commitment of the Angolan Executive to the implementation of strategies to resolve sanitary problems, investing in preventive medicine with a multi-sector approach.   

The Angolan delegation to the event comprises cadres working at the country’s Permanent Representation at the UN Office in Geneva and other international organisations based in Switzerland, members of the Angolan Embassy in Guinea-Bissau (whose activities are extended to Senegal and Gambia) and senior staff from the Angolan Health Ministry.
