The statistics were released by provincial supervisor of Expanded Programme of Vaccination (PAV), Pedro Nzuzi.
Nzuzi told ANGOP that the administration of the pentavalent 1 vaccine covered the municipalities of Mbanza Kongo, Soyo, Cuimba , Tomboco, Nzeto and Nóqui.
He said that the vaccination coverage falls short of the expectations of the local health authorities, as it was expected to reach 13, 638 children under one year in all the municipalities of the region.
He attributed to failure to reach the expected figure to the fact that a considerable (unspecified) number of children have been found with complete vaccine schedules in above municipalities.
"Overall we had a ten percent vaccination coverage," the source stressed, announcing that that the second phase of this routine vaccination is underway since Monday and going until 14 October.
