Rabies kills more than 30 people in Bié
Cuito - The head of Health Office of the region Joao Cacungula said Friday in Cuito that 36 people died of rabies in central Bié province in 2018, more 22 deaths compared to 2017.

The official who was speaking to Angop said that 1,135 animal bites were reported in 2018, mainly of dogs and cats, 33 cases more than in 2017, in Cuito, Camacupa, Catabola, Cunhinga, Chitembo, Andulo, Cuemba, Nhârea and Chinguar.
He said that for the current year, the health authorities and municipal administrations of the province of Bié will reinforce campaigns to raise awareness among pet breeders to join the vaccination campaigns carried out by the veterinary services.
The campaigns are also aimed at sensitizing animal owners to keep animals in safe places, such as in backyards, so as not to bite passers-by.
He recalled that in 2018, the Provincial Health Office of Bié received from the Ministry of Health 480 doses of human rabies vaccines, an amount that has served to immunize people bitten.
