During the usual press conference to update data on the pandemic, the minister advanced 92 samples in processing, the results of which will be announced in the coming days.
"As part of the investigation and permanent search of citizens suspected of the covid-19, at least 358 cases are being followed, as well as 696 contacts (persons under monitoring for having been in contact with citizens who’ve tested positive) of the 19 confirmed positive cases," said Health minister Sílvia Lutucuta, seizing the occasion to re-announce the arrival in Angola, this weekend, of 264 Cuban physicians.
Specialized human resources
To reinforce medical assistance and fill the gap in specialized human resources in the country, 264 Cuban doctors are expected to arrive this weekend in Angola, of whom 244 are new hired specialists, while 20 professionals return to Angola after fulfilling vacations in their homeland.
He said that after the quarantine period, to which Cuban doctors will also be submitted, they will be distributed to all municipalities in the country's 18 provinces, with a view to ensuring specialized medical care in all locations.
Despite not yet registering community cases of covid-19, Angola already has 19 imported infections, of which two citizens are recovering from the disease and two other died, while 15 are hospitalized in reference units in the country's capital.
To contain the spread of covid-19 and prevent community infection, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, decreed last Thursday the extension of the State of Emergency, which has been ongoing since March 27, for another 15 days.
The extension of the State of Emergency starts at midnight on April 11 and ends at 11:59 pm on the 25th of the same month.
In this period of mandatory confinement and social distancing, the circulation and permanence of people on public roads is forbidden, as well as the sale of non-essential products.
