Covid-19: Angola negotiates acquisition of laboratories

Luanda - Angolan health authorities said they are negotiating with the Chinese biotechnology company BGI to acquire three more high capacity laboratories for testing Covid-19 and other diseases in the country.

This was announced Tuesday in Luanda by the Angolan Health minister Sílvia Lutucuta at daily covid-19 update briefing.

Negotiations are in progress and the Government is proud to have an Angolan scientist joining the Chinese specialists in charge of assembling the high-capacity laboratories to process 5,000 samples /day, she said.

According to her, the country will have high-capacity laboratory equipment for testing Covid-19 and other viral diseases.

Angola has currently six Covid-19 testing laboratories installed in the country's capital, with the capacity to process an additional 600 samples / day.

So far the laboratories have received 31, 319 samples, of which 23, 177 were negative, 386 positive and 7, 756 are in laboratory processing.

With 33 new cases detected, nine recovered and two deaths, in the last 24 hours, the data show a total of 386 infections, of which 117 recovered, 21 deaths and 248 active.

Six require special care and one in critical condition.

Local transmission stands at 249 cases, while 36 cases are imported and 101 infected are in an epidemiological study.
