ORMED chairperson removed from leadership
Luanda - Northern Regional Council of Association of Physicians of Angola (ORMED) has removed the chairperson Elisa Gaspar from the institution’s leadership.

The decision followed an Extraordinary General Meeting, which alleged mismanagement of the assets by the chairperson.
Elisa Gaspar, elected ORMED’s chairperson on April 28, 2019, with 45.5 percent of the vote, is accused of embezzling 19 million kwanzas.
According to the final communiqué of the general assembly, reached ANGOP, the more than 50 percent of ORMED members set up independent management and inquiry commissions to audit the institution's accounts.
The management commission, which has 90 days to prepare a new electoral process, includes doctors Arlete Luele, Rosalon Pedro, Jeremias Agostinho, Benedito Quintas and Armando Caála.
The commission of inquiry is made up of doctors Filomena do Amaral and Desidério Sossanje.
Fifty-three physicians have attended the event in person and 408 via Zoom, representing the north and south regional councils.
At the end of the meeting, the head of the Doctors' Union, Adriano Manuel, said that the Elisa Gaspar was creating a "nepotism climate" and showed a lack of solidarity with her colleagues.
ORMED comprises the regions of north (Cabinda, Zaire, Uíge, Bengo and Luanda), centre (Cuanza Sul, Benguela, Huambo, Bié and Moxico), East (Cuanza Norte, Malanje, Lunda Norte and Lunda Sul) and south (Namibe, Huíla, Cuando Cubango and Cunene).
