USA: Family Minister praises women's role in economic diversification

Washington - The Minister of Family and Women Issues, Filomena Delgado, highlighted on Saturday the role played by the women entrepreneurs in our Angolan society and their contribution to the country’s economic diversification process.

Filomena Delgado was speaking at the closing ceremony of the International Women's Week organized by the Angolan Embassy in the USA, which was held under the motto "Women, Mother and Entrepreneur".

"There are initiatives in our country worthy of highlighting, women who started as entrepreneurs with small businesses and today, thanks to their selfless work and sacrifice, are great entrepreneurs and a great example for the whole society", stressed Filomena Delgado.

She reaffirmed that the Angolan woman has played a key role in the growth of the national economy.

The minister announced that Angola has a very strong network of women entrepreneurs, which began with small associations in all the provinces of the country, today giving rise to the Women Entrepreneurs Federation, whose initiatives of entrepreneurship are currently recognized internationally.

The event counted on the lecture of the ambassadors of the African Union and Swaziland to the United States.

The meeting also counted on the participation of SADC and CPLP ambassadors, namely from Swaziland, East Timor, Cabo Verde, Malawi, Uganda and Mauritius, representatives of government institutions and the US Congress, as well as members of the resident community and diplomats on mission in Washington D.C.

The Angolan Ambassador to the United States, Agostinho Tavares, spoke on the origin and historical importance of the International Women's Day, officialized in 1975 by the United Nations, as recognition of the role played in the call for women’s full and equal participation in the society and in the fight against discrimination.
