The minister was speaking at a meeting with local government officials. The official said that from 1968 to 1975 Lunda Sul did not have more than 1,000 soldiers.

He said that it is hard to understand why the Ministry assists about 14.682 former Combatants in this province.

"I lived in the region from 1968 to 1972. I know a little bit of the history on Liberation Struggle in this part of the region. I am aware that there are the true Former Combatants who need to be enlisted," he said.

João Ernesto "Liberdade" pledged that the Ministry will start strictly implementing the motto "Improve what is right and correct what is wrong", in order to honour those who have really contributed to the defence of the country.

Under the Law, the Former Combatants ended their mission in 1975.

The Ministry controls 160,000 people countrywide and a total of 40,000 cases are expected for approval.
