Over 200 people detained in Luanda

Luanda - At least 216 people have been arrested in Luanda at the weekend over alleged offences, said the Provisional Command of National Police.

The spokesman for Provincial Command of Police, Chief Inspector Lázaro da Conceição, said that the arrests are part of the second phase of operation "Tigre".

The police also seized several weapons including  machetes, knives and axes.

The operation targeted the municipalities of Talatona (Simione), Viana (km-30 and 9), Cacuaco (headquarters and Augusto Gangula), Belas (Ramiros), Cazenga (Cortume, Malueca and Patricio).

Police also conducted searches and seizures in neighbourhoods of Nélito Soares,  Marçal, Rangel, Catintom  and Prenda (Maianga),  Papa Simão, Kicuxi, kididi Kiame (Viana), Casas Azuis, Camama, Chinbicato, Rei Mandume (Talatona),  Augusto Gangula, Cerâmica, Mulenvos Comandante Bula, in Cazenga and Cacuaco, respectively.

The detainees are charged with involvement in crimes of homicide, robbery and theft as well as the illegal possession of firearms.

Lázaro da Conceição vowed that the operation will continue until the feeling of security is restored among the population.
