Following the presentation of an overview of the lecture series on "The role of the media in refugee protection", the UNHCR representative said that the lack of documentation or its expiry has caused numerous constraints on refugees and asylum seekers, instead of being questioned by the police, they have no way of identifying themselves and they end up detained.
In view of this situation, the UNHCR representative said that a campaign of registration of refugees and asylum seekers in Luanda was under way with the SME.
Philippa Candler also considered the situation of refugees in Angola as favorable, since the Angolan government has complied with the programs to be developed, but the issue of documentation of refugees and asylum seekers in Luanda has worried the organization.
