INAD sensitizes over 3,000 people on landmine risk

Saurimo - At least 3,800 people were sensitized on the dangers of landmines and other explosive devices, within the framework of the accident prevention program with these means.

Awareness was made from January to September this year, in the province of Lunda Sul, by the National Demining Institute (INAD), in order to contribute to the safety of communities.

According to the head of the Statistics Section of the local INAD, Rui Sacheleca, the process took place in the localities of Gambos, Txizainga II and Pimbi (municipality of Saurimo). In the same period, four unexploded ordnance and an AKM weapon were found.

From 2002 to 2016, INAD demined an area of 52 million square meters, extracting 1,554 antipersonnel landmines, 123 anti-tank and 1,583 unexploded ordnance in the province.
