The appeal of the Supreme Pontiff was made during the Mass that marked the closing of the 34th World Youth Day, 2019 (WYD), which took place from 22 to 27 January, in Panama.
At the time, he considered the widespread reality of many children deprived of the right to play, study and dream, because they are mistreated, exploited and abandoned.
Like the children, he lamented the difficult situation facing many young people who see their hopes of the future shattered due to lack of education and decent work.
The Pope pointed out the lack of state policies that ensure education and employment for citizens as fundamental factors that have led many young people and families to fall into a spiral of death because of drugs, alcohol, prostitution and human trafficking.
