Adriano dos Santos, secretary general of Trade Union, appealed to the Executive on Thursday in central Huambo province at the National Forum of the Leaders of the Public Administration, Health and Services Workers Unions.

In view of the increase in goods and services, mainly basic food basket, the Union has the obligation to ask the Government, in defence of the workers, for adopting economic measures to reverse the current situation, he stressed.

Adriano dos Santos also recalled that the last time the public administration sector benefited from a general career retraining was in the years 1997 and 1998.

This means over 20 years there have been no promotions, a situation that has exacerbated the life of this class.

Rampant inflation coupled with devaluation of currency has eroded the purchasing power of wages, making it more miserable than ever before.

On the other hand, the introduction of the Value Added Tax (VAT), in force since October of this year, has further aggravated the problems of citizens, with some economic agents, eager for easy profit, taking advantage of the situation, regretted Adriano dos Santos, who was speaking on behalf of the Union.

However, he said, the Trade Union urges the General Tax Administration (AGT) to continue conducting pedagogical actions for the business class.

He also spoke of the need to take measures against the traders who still persist with this practice of increasing the basic products, alleging implementing VAT.
