New bishop of Viana sworn in Sunday

Luanda - The new Bishop of the Diocese of Viana, Luanda, Emilio Sumbelelo, appointed February 11, 2019 by Pope Franscisco, will be sworn in next Sunday (28), in a ceremony to take place in Kilamba Multipurpose Pavilion.

Speaking to Angop on Tuesday (23), spokesman of the diocese, Father Queiros Figueira, said that the ceremony will have two moments: the inauguration of the bishop, the renewal of the commitment of the priests, and the presentation of the prelate to the faithful.

Bishop Emílio Sumbelelo was appointed as the new Bishop of Viana on February 11, 2019 by Pope Francisco in replacement of Bishop Joaquim Ferreira Lopes.

The new 56-year-old prelate of Viana is from Benguela province and has been in the diocese of Uíge for 11 years (2008/2019).

The Diocese of Viana was created on 06 June 2007 and its first Bishop was Joaquim Ferreira Lopes.
