Social Communication minister, João Melo

In a message on the occasion International Labor Day (May 1),  published in his twiter’s  account  he said that his ministry will not fail to assume its duties as well.

The ephemeris, which is marked today, originated in the massacre in Chicago, in the early days of May 1884, when US police fired and killed unarmed demonstrators demanding eight-hour s working period and better working conditions.

Inspired by this event, workers and trade unionists from around the world, met Paris in July 1889, decided to proclaim May 1st as International Workers' Day.

Since then, the date has been celebrated by workers around the world, being banned or ignored by authoritarian and anti-democratic regimes or consecrated as a holiday in countries that recognize the legitimate rights of workers and strive to raise their standard of living and of improving their working conditions, as is the case of the Republic of Angola.
