Faustina Alves was speaking at central event to mark May 15, International Day of the Family, held in Dondo, northern Cuanza Norte province.

Held under the motto "The moralisation of society starts in the family", the event took place on the sidelines of the XXII National Family Council, opened Wednesday in Dondo town.

The minister urged Angolan families to better educate and teach their children, with a view to ensuring a healthy society, where everyone can live in harmony.

"Should we get engaged in combat such practices there  will not be the need to punish the offenders nor to hold campaigns against excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages, drugs, domestic violence, paternity and maternity denial, "said the minister.

She regretted, on the other hand, the fact of some families, who over time, became materialistic and developed short-time perspective attitude and passed on to their children who in their turn ended up becoming bad citizens for society.

In 1993, the United Nations General Assembly declared May 15 as International Family Day, aimed to focus on the issues that influence the daily life of the Family.
