World Bank available to support Angola
Luanda - World Bank (WB) said Tuesday it was available for a strategic partnership with the Angolan government, ahead of the development challenges of the country.

The availability was expressed by the new representative of the bank in Africa, Jean-Christophe Carret, who was speaking to the press at the end of a meeting with the minister of the State for Social Area Carolina Cerqueira and the minister of Finance Vera Daves.
He said that the World Bank was aligned with the challenges of the country and there is the availability to understand how, in general way, it will support the Angolan government.
The representative also spoke of World Bank’s vision to support Angola to overcome the challenges in the social sector, with stress to the fields of education, health and social protection.
The source said there are also other areas that should be taken into account, which had already been identified before the emergence of pandemic.
According to Jean-Christophe Carret, the World Bank pays special attention to the monetary transfer project, aimed to support the vulnerable families due to the covid-19 pandemic.
During the meeting, the minister Carolina Cerqueira presented a general framework on the social situation of the country, exacerbated by covid-19 which greatly crippled the social fabric and severe human vulnerability.
The official underlined the government's special attention to issues related to education, health, women's empowerment and child support which, in addition to promoting integration, contribute to increasing the sustainable development of communities.
The minister considered the programmes to fight against malnutrition priorities of the integrated programmes for the support to vulnerable population.
Among the programme, the official mentioned Kwenda programme which has been crucial to mitigate poverty that includes many families.
In turn, the minister of Finance Vera Daves, said that the meeting served to convey to the World Bank representative the real information related to the projects underway in the country.
