While presenting the report, the representative of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), Eliana Quintas, said that the study identified the poorest 65 municipalities in the country in the area of health services, sanitation, civil registration, access to education and drinking water.

According to her, the study shows that the worsening of poverty in Angola is also related to the high unemployment rate among youth and adults, as well as dependency and housing quality.

In her view, the report, that shows four key dimensions of poverty from a multidimensional perspective with 11 indicators, based on definitive results from the General Population and Housing Census held in 2014, indicates that nine out of ten people in these municipalities are poor

In turn, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) representative Lourenço Massidi said the creation of a national Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), with specific indicators for Angola, could complement the existing global MPI, which will allow comparability among the countries.

Deputy Governor for Political, Social and Economic Sector, Soraya Mateus Kalongela said the report would allow the government to focus its policies on improving the lives and welfare of the population.

The study began on 19 March 2019 and conducted in a partnership with UNDP, INE and Oxford University's Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI), aimed to identify the poverty level in each municipality.
