Angola attends international conference on oceans

Minister of Fisheries and the Sea, Maria Antonieta Baptista, heads the Angolan delegation

According to a press release, issued by the Ministry of Fisheries and the Sea, the Angolan delegation will be led by Minister Maria Antonieta Baptista.

In meantime, the minister visited Botswana, where she signed in Gaborone, on 17 October the SADC Charter which creates the Regional Center for Fisheries Supervision, Control and Surveillance. 

With that Angola becomes the eighth member state of the Southern African Development Community to sign the Charter that was approved by the SADC Cabinet in a meeting held in Pretoria, South Africa in 2017. 

Addressing a speech during the ceremony, the Angolan minister Maria Antonieta Baptista highlighted that the role of the fisheries represents a way of livelihood of the Angolan people particularly and in general for the region.

Since she took office, the Fisheries minister develops efforts regarding the revitalization of the fishing industry, through promotion of sustainable fisheries management and aquaculture development by providing more jobs.
