Higher education academic year to open on Friday

Luanda - The higher education academic year in Angola is to open on Friday, in a ceremony to take place in the central province of Benguela the 2020 Academic Year.

According to the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, in a press release, announces that conditions are set for the normal functioning of all public institutions of higher education.

Regarding the alleged strike of the public institutions of higher education teachers reported by some media organs, the ministry states that it did not receive any strike declaration from the Higher Education Teacher's Union (SINPES) according to the Law on Strikes. 

In relation to the debt owed to the employees of public institutions of higher education, it is said that the process for its due clearance with public institutions of higher education has been completed, with the collaboration of SINPES.

“This is an ongoing process with the Ministry of Finance, having the General Secretary of SINPES attended as guest the meeting between both ministerial departments to know about the next steps and the schedule draft for the debt settlement”, reads the note. 

Meanwhile, the country has currently eight public universities, namely 11 de Novembro University, that includes provinces of Cabinda and Zaire, José Eduardo dos Santos University (Huambo, Bié and Moxico), Mandume University (Huíla, Namibe), Cuito Cuanavale University, (Cuando Cubango and Cunene), Kimpa Vita University (Uíge and Cuanza  Norte), Lueji Ya Ankonde University (Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul and Malanje);  Katiavala Buila University (Benguela and Cuanza Sul) and Agostinho Neto University (Luanda
