South African minister highlights cultural exchange

Luanda - The South African minister for Sports, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, said last Friday in Luanda that the cultural exchange among Angola and South Africa generates opportunities for artists to produce goods and services that enhance both countries.

Speaking at the closing of the Cultural Angola/South Africa Week, that happened from November 28 to December 6, Nathi Mthethwa highlighted that the variety of cultural rhythms is seen as base for development among Angolans and South Africans.

According to him, the Cultural Week enables to bridge socio-economic gaps between both peoples.

The Angolan minister of Culture, Maria da Piedade de Jesus, praised the quality of the exhibited cultural products from both countries, stressing that the interaction between these cultures enriches the southern region of Africa.

According to the minister, the meeting reinforces the Angola/South Africa cooperation relations, besides empowering the Angolan art and increasing the sustainable support to the national artists.

The president of the Angola/South Africa Chamber of Commerce, Victorian Nicolau, stated that this event opens new avenues for cooperation, which have never before been experienced.

The official also made known that from a social point of view, by 2020, they will act more in the agribusiness area in Bengo Province and in the central plateau.

The cultural week happened in the ambit of the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the South African Diplomacy, under the motto ''A 25 year’s journey''.

The journey served to reinforce the cooperation, through the various artistic manifestations, such as music, dance, poetry, cinema, fashion and design, mural painting and crafts, presenting the unity, the integration and both countries collaboration.

During the day the films "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom" and "A Zulu Wedding" were screened, while in the musical aspect South Africa’s Queen Maskandi showed her peculiar way of singing and dancing, while from Angola Dodo Miranda and the Ballet Kilandukilo completed the show.
