Illustrated book on Agostinho Neto presented in Bengo

Caxito - A mostly illustrated (photos) book entitled "Agostinho Neto - from the guerrilla to the early years of Independence" by the Italian journalist Augusta Conchiglia, was presented on Thursday to readers of the northern Bengo Province.

The presentation ceremony was promoted by António Agostinho Neto Foundation (FAAN) as part of the celebrations of the 97th birthday of the founder of the nation, to be marked on September 17.

The photos book launched on June 21 this year, at the António Agostinho Neto Memorial in Luanda, has 240 pages, with more than 100 unpublished photos of Angola's first president with war comrades and relatives from 1968 to 1975.

Augusta Conchiglia was born in Milan, Italy, where she studied social sciences, photography and cinema.

She participated in 1961 in the making of a documentary for Italian Television about the colonial war in Angola.

She has been correspondent for Afrique-Asia Magazine in Paris, France, since the 1980s, consultant for the European Union for Africa but based in Southern Africa and collaborated with the African study centres of Nigeria and South Africa.
