MINSA, WHO approve strategy for mental health
Luanda - The strategy of Mental Health, Alcohol, Tobacco and other drugs, is an instrument that would allow Angola to strengthen the approach in a holistic way, to improve the mental situation in the country, was approved on Friday in Luanda during the Workshop hosted by the Ministry of Health (MINSA) and World Health Organization (WHO).

Official data shows that in 2018, 31,619 cases of people with mental disorders, including depression, bipolar affective disorder, schizophrenia, dementia, intellectual disability and developmental disorders were recorded.
The document will also allow the definition of guidelines for action and joint intervention, promoting coordination and strategic partnership between the different social actors and improving the mobilization of resources.
According to the acting representative of WHO, Fernanda Alves, Angola will be able to guarantee mental well-being, prevent mental disorders, provide real-time care and treatment, improve recovery and reduce mortality, mobility and disability of people with these pathologies.
Regarding the strategy to have the desired result, it is necessary to ensure its wide dissemination, coordination of intersectoral initiatives, mobilization and allocation of resources, and partnership with civil society organizations, youth and religious groups, traditional authorities, the family, among others.
In his turn, the Secretary of State for Health in the hospital area, Leonardo Inocêncio, urged the continuity of the ability to design effective documents, whose results are complementary for given materialization.
