Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Intensive Care and Hemodialysis Unit at David Bernardino Hospital, the minister said that the fundamental assumptions were created so that adequate care can be given to patients with renal insufficiency.

The unit has 14 beds, with three dialysis machines to treat patients with acute renal failure and one for patients with chronic pathologies.

With this step, patients with kidney failure who were diagnosed at David Bernardino Paediatric Hospital no longer need to be referred to Josina Machel Hospital private service and to the Girassol Clinic, where they underwent haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.

“It is a privilege to be able to witness this act which marks the beginning of the activity of the new intensive care and haemodialysis unit. With this unit, this reference hospital will gain more valences, which will contribute to the improvement of children’s quality of life, safety and tranquillity for families”, she said.

The minister added that the work developed by the hospital in the fields of preventive, curative and rehabilitation health of children with medium and high complexity pathologies, through a research policy, permanent staff training, is based on the use of appropriate technologies.
