Russian citizen killed in Luanda

Luanda - A Russian national died after being close range shot by unknown assailants this morning in Luanda's Alvalade ward , Maianga district, after leaving a bank branch.

Witnesses told Angop that two men on a motorcycle chased the victim from Comandante Valodia Avenue, Sambizanga district, where the deceased withdrew the money.

"The thieves intercepted the car in which the 56-year-old man was driving and fired two shots at the victim and took a briefcase with money," the witnesses said.

The spokesman for the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) in Luanda, Superintendent Fernando de Carvalho, confirmed the fact, stating that the shots hit one leg and abdomen, and the victim died on the crime scene.

According to the official, despite the reaction of private security guards in the area, with gunshots, the criminals managed to escape.

This is the fourth case of its kind in less than 48 hours in Luanda, with a death toll of five, all shot for reacting to assaults.

Thursday, in Ingombota district, a Portuguese citizen carrying money was shot and killed during a robbery.
