Angola: 182 killed in road accidents in 2018-19

Luanda - At least 182 people died as result of 854 traffic accidents in 2018-19, according to National Security Traffic Department.

Releasing the statistics, the head of  National Security Traffic Department, António Marques Pinduca, said that 860 people have sustained injuries during this period.

He said that there was a decrease of 66 deaths, 291 injuries and 212 accidents, compared to the previous period.

Delivering his speech at the awards ceremony in recognition of the top three winners of the campaign dubbed “Exemplary Drivers, Safety Road”, who received three Mobilephone worth 59,000 Kwanza, the officer pointed to driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, non-compliance with the rules, as among the main causes of the accidents.

The campaign serves to promote the road code, as well as assess drivers' performance.
