CFB train colides in Bié
The collision involved a goods locomotive and a maintenance train.
The wounded have receive medical assistance in a health centre in the municipality of Kwanza, Camacupa (Bié).
This is the second accident of its kind on this branch in the last seven years. The first one occurred on 17 February 2013 and caused 20 injuries, which were in the locomotives.
The 2013 accident, which occurred at Cuemba station (Bié), is said to have been caused by a technical failure of the signalman. It is alleged to have made a mistake in changing the line of the freight train making the Cuito-Luena route.
The Camacupa municipal administrator, José Lopinho, who was at the site of the accident, in aid of the victims, admitted failure in communications between line technicians as the main cause of the collision.
The freight locomotive was on the Cuito-Luena route and while the technical train left Luena for the city of Cuito, but alleged communication failure between line technicians caused such a collision.
Davoca Sapalo, one of the injured, reported that the locomotive that he was in left Cunje Station (Bié) and the technical indications showed that they were at three crossroads, without, however, having been aware of the locomotive comingtowards Luena-Cuito direction.
