Addis Abeba - African Union Commission (AU) is worried about the political and security situation in the Central African Republic (CAR), and strongly condemned the increase of violence in some regions
The concern was expressed by the Organisation’s chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat, who was quoted in a statement released last Monday.
Moussa Faki Mahamat strongly condemned the upsurge in violence in some parts of the country, which, according to him, resulted in loss of human life and which may disrupt the electoral process.
Elections in Central African Republic are scheduled for next Sunday and the Government accuses that an attempted coup by the former president François Bozizé is underway.
As leader of the three main armed groups, Bozizé, who occupies a large chunk of the CAR territory and carrying an offensive in the north and west of the country, is said to planning the creation of a coalition.
The three groups threatened to organise an attack if the current President tries to resort to a fraud to secure a second term.
Moussa Faki Mahamat reminded all political players that the elections remain the only legitimate means of accessing power and called for working together to conduct elections in accordance with the CAR Constitution and the rules governing the international, continental and regional principles.
