Luanda - The Office of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries in the province of Luanda on Sunday warned pig farmers about the sanitary measures to be taken into account, as a result of the existence of African swine fever (ASF) in the municipality of Icolo e Bengo, 62 kilometers from Luanda downtown.
According to a statement from the Agriculture Office in Luanda, which ANGOP had access to, ASF was registered precisely in the Agro-Quiminha Project, in Icolo and Bengo, so preventive measures were taken such as cleaning and disinfestation of the facilities and the prohibition of acquiring animals without prior consultation with the veterinary services.
Likewise, the precautions to be taken also include the immediate withdrawal from the market of the products mentioned above and their destruction, and for this purpose they must contact the local authorities, control of the movement of pigs and keepers and active search, early arrest and sanitary slaughter of the animals, followed by the disposal of carcasses.
The agricultural service in Luanda has directed the prohibition of the movement of pigs throughout the Agro-Quiminha Project, in the municipality of Icolo and Bengo.
Considering that there is no vaccine against African swine fever on site (Agro-Quiminha project) and taking into account that its prevention depends on the adoption of control and biosecurity measures that prevent the introduction of infected animals and their products into African swine fever-free zones, producers and breeders are ordered to comply with the measures for animal health in the area.
African Swine Fever is a highly contagious hemorrhagic disease caused by the virus of the family asfarviridae that affects domestic and feral pigs, causing severe economic and productive losses. CLAU/AC/DOJ
