Malanje – At least 140 million kwanzas was spent on the purchase of agricultural inputs to promote family farming in the municipality of Kiwaba Nzoji during the 2023/24 agricultural campaign, said Wednesday in the Province of Malanje, the municipal director of agriculture, cattle breeding and fisheries, Oliveira António.
The amount was used to buy potato and millet seeds, agricultural tools, as well as to prepare 150 hectares of land for the 350 peasant families involved in the production process in the municipality.
Speaking to ANGOP, he stressed that the initiative is part of the Local Development and Combating Poverty Programme (PIDLCP), adding that within the framework of the Participatory Budget (PB) 31 more hectares had been prepared for some farmers' associations and cooperatives involved in other activities in the agricultural sector.
This year, 3,612 hectares are being prepared for the cultivation of beans, potatoes, maize and other crops.
In the previous agricultural campaign, 4,212 hectares of land were prepared and 50,000 tonnes of various products were harvested.
The Kiwaba Nzoji Municipal Directorate of Agriculture, Cattle Breeding and Fisheries currently controls 10 cooperatives and 38 farmers' associations.
