Luanda - Angolan ambassador to Italy, Fatima Jardim, on Wednesday defended the need for the conclusion of agricultural projects underway in the country amounting to 50 million US dollars, through the assistance of the International Fund for Agrarian Development (IFAD).
The Angolan diplomat also highlighted the project on "Improvement of the Resilience of Small Producers - SREP", to be co-financed by the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa.
Fatima Jardim, who was speaking during an audience granted by the president of the IFAD, Gilbert Houngbo, said Angola hopes to get financing from this international institution for the said project, since it will allow the construction of several infrastructures, such as roads, that are essential for its success.
The Angolan diplomat added that IFAD’s projects in Angola are entering final phase and that the time has come to prepare new ones.
Fatima Jardim also requested the support of the IFAD’s president for the approval and definition of these projects, before he takes up new functions as general-director of the International Labor Organization (ILO), given his knowledge of Angola's needs, mainly in the area of aquaculture and drought combat.
The Angolan ambassador also presented congratulations of the Angolan government to the president of IFAD, Gilbert Houngbo, on his election to the post of director-general of the ILO, recognizing the work done in the leadership of this body of the United Nations system.
