Caxito - The province of Bengo recorded, in 2023, an estimated agricultural production of 1,225,477 tons of various products, cultivated in an area of 153,925 hectares.
Of this production, bananas stand out (the province is the largest national producer), corn, cassava, beans and citrus fruits, informed the governor of Bengo, Maria Antónia Nelumba, when talking on 2023 main achievements and prospects for 2024.
She said that during the year 44 field schools were created, which are allowing the transmission of knowledge of new agricultural techniques and contributing to an increase in production per cultivated area.
For the governor, agriculture in the province is considered a strategic value for eradicating hunger and poverty, increasing family income and exports of agricultural products.
According to the governor, on a macro horizon, agriculture can lift the province towards greater socio-economic development, with the increasing introduction of mechanization through entrepreneurs and agri-business.
For the 2023/2024 agricultural year, the province has prepared 152 thousand hectares where 43,592 families will be involved. These families are being assisted by technicians from the Agrarian Development Stations and field schools of the family farmers' resilience strengthening project (SREP).
For the campaign to be successful, the necessary agricultural inputs were distributed to the farmers.
