Caxito – The Boa Fé Agro-livestock and Fishing Cooperative, in the province of Bengo, wants to produce corn on a large scale, in an area of 15 hectares.
To achieve this goal, the cooperative is making efforts to obtain financing from PRODESI, the Angolan government program that provides support on local production exports diversifications.
Located in the municipality of Barra do Dande, Boa Fé intends to use the financing to purchase a tractor with corresponding implements, motor pumps and agricultural seeds and increase the production area.
With the expansion of the production area, members want to experiment with crops such as tomatoes, onions, cabbage, carrots, peppers, cucumbers and citrus fruits with an irrigation system.
In this agricultural year (2023-2024), the cooperative expects poor harvests due to flooding caused by rain and the overflow of the Dande River, which destroyed much of the production.
Boa Fé, which currently produces cassava, bananas, beans and peanut in an area of six hectares, produced six tons of various products in the 2022-2023 agricultural year.
With 120 members, the cooperative created six jobs and has 177 head of cattle. FS/IF/DOJ
