Malanje- Three hundred tons of cotton could be harvested in the current 2023/2024 agricultural campaign, by family producers in the municipality of Cunda-dya-base, a figure that represents an increase of 231 tons compared to last year.
The information was provided on Monday, to ANGOP, by the production manager of “Investimentos e Participações” company, Santos Gomes.
He said that 200 families were mobilized, based on the results obtained in the previous campaign, in which 77 households, with a history of cotton production in the region, were involved.
To achieve the desired production, in addition to mechanized areas, it guaranteed that producers will also benefit from agricultural inputs.
He stressed that the increase in cotton production has grown, which is why in the agricultural season that ended, families raised five million 875 thousand kwanzas, part of the amount is being invested in the cultivation of that crop and the other is intended to satisfy their needs.
Santos Gomes informed that with the production of cotton in Cunda-dya-base, the Investimentos e Participações company currently meets 40 percent of the needs of its textile factory “TEXTANG II”, thus contributing to reducing the import of this raw material.
Angola spends around 12 million dollars annually on cotton imports, which is why the Executive is creating conditions for businesspeople to invest in the relaunch of this crop.
As a result, the Baixa de Cassanje region, which brings together the municipalities of Marimba, Cunda-dia-base, Quela, Cahombo and Kiwaba Nzoji, already has a reserved area of 250,000 hectares for cotton production. ACC/NC/PBC/DOJ
